Transforming a Dhaka interior design Apartment: A Journey in Minimalist Design

When Dhaka Interior Design was approached to renovate a 4-room resale HDB flat in Dhaka, our designer Vincent Chuah immediately recognized the potential to create a stylish and functional home. By collaborating closely with the homeowners, Vincent crafted a design that perfectly met their lifestyle needs and aesthetic preferences.

Embracing a Neutral Color Palette

The vision for this project centered on a minimalist aesthetic with a focus on neutral tones. This choice of colors not only enhanced the natural light in the space but also created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The use of light wood finishes and elements inspired by traditional tatami style brought a harmonious and cohesive look to each room.

Innovative Space-Saving Solutions

The renovation process, which took 12 weeks, began with a thorough overhaul of the interior. This included stripping down walls, updating electrical systems, and reworking the plumbing. One of the key design strategies was to integrate hidden storage solutions around the edges of the rooms. This approach, inspired by tatami design, maximized space efficiency while maintaining a clean and stylish appearance.

Functional and Elegant Furniture Choices

A standout feature of the renovation is the elevated workstation, which seamlessly integrates into different rooms. This design allows the couple to work comfortably while ensuring the workspace blends with the overall décor when not in use. Additionally, bespoke wooden panelling and a marble backdrop behind the living room’s large-screen TV created a focal point that adds both sophistication and functionality.

Versatile and Stylish Dining Area

The open-plan dining area was designed to complement the living space with its muted tones and natural materials. The island table serves a dual purpose as a breakfast bar and an entertaining area. Moreover, minimalist drop lights over the table not only enhance the dining experience but also complete the space with a touch of elegance.

Efficient Kitchen Design

The kitchen, which is central to the home, was designed to accommodate multiple needs, including workspaces, storage, a hob, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. The tatami-inspired theme continues here with ceiling-to-floor cabinets and a worktop made from natural materials. The plain white cabinet doors were chosen to ensure a seamless look that complements the wood finishes throughout the home.

Thoughtful Bedroom Layout

The master bedroom features a carefully planned walk-in wardrobe, which offers ample storage and organization. Subtle back-light accents and cornices enhance the room’s serene atmosphere. The low beds and minimalist décor reflect the tatami style, creating a tranquil and restful retreat.

Modern Bathroom Design

The bathroom, highlighted by a walk-in shower, features striking black accents that contrast with the neutral color palette. The wall tiles, which follow the wood theme of the design, complement the black steel elements, making a bold statement. Ingenious alcove shelving provides efficient storage for toiletries, enhancing both style and functionality.
